Ignition 2.0 Is Here

Last year, we released our Ignition reading program and got great results. A College Board study found that, in a randomized, controlled trial, Ignition had a significant effect on PSAT reading scores, and nearly 80% of students who went through the three-week program said that they would recommend it to a friend. We were thrilled to see that with just a few weeks of use, our advanced-literacy instruction and personalized practice was having such a big impact. But we wanted it even to be even better. Enter Ignition 2.0.

We just released a new version of Ignition for the 2022-23 school year. It still has instruction and personalized practice on our four key skills, Use Your Senses, Make It Real, Navigators and Pronouns, and includes some exciting updates:

  • More data for teachers: We’ve added skill mastery check-ins (called “Show What You Know”) throughout the Ignition experience and teachers will see those scores, along with Level Placement results, in the Ignition report.

  • More feedback for students: Students will be able to see the results of their Show What You Know assessments, as well as which questions they answered correctly and incorrectly on the Level Placements. As they go through the Ignition experience, they’ll get guidance when they’re struggling; as needed, video instructors will scaffold, reteach, and redirect.

  • More timing info: Teachers can find out when students completed the required levels for each skill, and how long it took for them to get there.

  • New, streamlined gameplay: Our student users provided lots of feedback last year, and we listened! Students will see a newly designed Ignition this year, updated with easy-to-understand elements to keep them engaged, motivated, and learning.

  • Predictions in the Level Placement: Just like in Article quizzes, students will now be asked to make a prediction before unlocking the multiple choice answers on the Level Placements. This encourages critical thinking, reduces cognitive load, and builds great test taking habits.
